Rhythm Goods is a creative art and design brand from South Australia. Skateboards are the flagship and the best canvas found yet for getting original work out into the world and into people's lives. The work is made to be lived with, displayed, collected, and experienced up close.
Every piece is an original. The designs draw from mythology, ancient symbolism, psychedelia, street culture, portraiture, geometric abstraction, and imagery that rewards a second look. More styles and subjects are always in development.
The decks
All boards are high quality 7-ply Canadian maple, sourced from Trinity Distribution in Queensland. Authentic construction, proper weight and shape, the kind of deck that works as a serious, sturdy art piece precisely because it is the real thing.
All Rhythm Goods products are sold as decorative art objects and are not endorsed for skate use.
Premade and custom
The shop carries a catalogue of finished artworks, a good way to see the range of styles and a source of inspiration for where a custom piece might go. Custom commissions are the primary focus of the business. The aim is always to find a new angle, an unexpected combination, something that hasn't been done before. If you have a direction in mind, specific or loose, that's the starting point.
Before committing to anything, every detail of a commission is worked through together. Finishes, materials, colour, scale, nothing is assumed and nothing is locked in until the direction feels right. It doesn't need to be complicated to get started.
Finishes - Finish and Pigment Guide
A base vinyl print is clean and sharp straight off the press, and is available in satin, matt, or gloss. Without a topcoat the surface is more susceptible to scratching over time, so understanding what goes on top is worth knowing before ordering.
An acrylic lacquer adds a hand-applied protective layer over the print. Beyond protection, a lacquer topcoat changes how the artwork reads visually, adding depth and richness to the surface. Available in gloss or matt.
A two-part hard resin takes things further still. A professional clear coat that cures extremely hard, it provides serious lasting protection for the artwork beneath while keeping the piece light. An added benefit is repairability, if the top surface does sustain a scratch, the resin layer can be worked back and restored in a way a bare vinyl surface cannot.
Pearlescent and iridescent pigments can be worked into any topcoat at various ratios, shifting the surface colour under different light. The range runs from subtle single-colour pearl tones through to dual-colour iridescent finishes that move as the piece moves.
Foil can be worked on top, under, or inlaid with the vinyl. The results are unlike anything print alone can produce.

Custom commissions
Bring whatever you have. A reference image, a colour direction, a theme, a specific brief, or just a feeling you want captured. The more specific the better and challenging briefs are actively encouraged. Custom work is developed collaboratively, with the artwork presented for approval before anything goes to print.
